Let me just tell you how much I love Chick-fil-A. I mean, seriously, I’m kind of obsessed with the place. I love it so much that when I was a freshman in college, you could find me behind the counter saying “My Pleasure!” every afternoon.
My love for Chick-fil-A continued, even as we went gluten-free. We often run through the drive-thru and grab some grilled nuggets and fries on our way for a hike.
So, you can imagine my excitement when I was contacted by Chick-fil-A last fall offering me a spot on their mom panel. As part of the panel, I am often invited to try new menu items, and I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to dig into the Spicy Southwest Salad. I received a promotional gift card for the salad, but all opinions are honest and my own.
I figured, what better day than Cinco de Mayo to give this baby a try. Now, I’m not a huge fan of spice, though my tolerance has improved since I met my husband. He may be a redhead, but I’m positive he’s Mexican at heart!
The salad comes with romaine lettuce, baby greens, shredded red cabbage, grape tomatoes, Monterey Jack & cheddar cheese, poblano chilis, red bell peppers, roasted corn, and black beans, all topped with a delicious serving of grilled spicy chicken. (Whew, that was a mouthful!)
You also have the option to add seasoned tortilla strips and chili lime pepitas (pumpkin seeds), but I decided to just eat it as-is. It can be paired with a creamy salsa dressing (which I chose!) or a chili lime vinaigrette.
Upon my first bite, I realized that spicy was right! I ran into the kitchen to get a drink and, to be completely honest, contemplated finishing the rest of the salad. It was hot!
Thankfully, my interest was more important than my taste buds, and I went back to the salad. I made sure to give it a really good toss to get everything mixed together and took another bite. And boy, am I glad I did.
I would recommend to have a drink handy, because they don’t use the word ‘spicy’ lightly. Honestly, I’m unsure if the dressing added an extra spice, haha, I guess I should’ve checked first. But, seriously, this thing is incredible. The heat just really works. As you’re met with a wall of hot chicken, the cheese and greens come to the rescue, quieting the heat, and adding a burst of healthy flavor.
The price is a little steep at over $7/salad, but it is so. much. food. Like, I had to share it with my husband (who devoured what was left) because it was so much. I’m sure adding the toppings would make you even fuller.
This may have become one of my menu favorites, and the grilled nuggets might have to take a back seat for a little while, because I want another one. And another! It’s that good.
I definitely suggest you swing by CFA whenever you get the chance to pick one up yourself.
You won’t regret it!
